So, let’s get started! Commit just 10 minutes to your first clinic, and watch how these small, intentional actions can lead to big transformations. Remember, every step forward is a step toward a more serene, organized life. You’ve got this!

  1. Purse/Briefcase/Backpack

Dump the contents from your daily bag. Only add the items you use back in. Let go of the rest. If you choose a day each week, this 10-minute task will be a way to change a habit and behavior.

  1. Bathroom

Let go of old cosmetics (see this for expiry guidelines), expired prescriptions, and OTC meds (here’s how to dispose of them). Take an assessment of each drawer and cabinet. Donate to a local homeless shelter if there are unopened items (toothpaste, shampoo, soap) or similar items that you know you will never use.

  1. Hall Closet or Storage Area

I’ve never seen the inside of your hall closet, but I can guarantee there are things in there you don’t need, don’t want, and don’t even remember you have or don’t know how they got there.

  1. Pantry

If there are other things you never use, let them go and make space. Donate unexpired, unopened items to your local food bank. Create a master list of what goes where on what shelf, create something to match the theme of your kitchen, drop it in a Dollar Store frame, and hang it so everyone knows how to keep the pantry tidy.

  1. Nightstand

Make the space near where you sleep peaceful and straightforward. Having a battery-operated clock next to the bed is nice in case of power outages. Have water and a notebook with a pen/pencil to make those last-minute thoughts before dreamland.

  1. Outdoor space

Tackle balconies, porches, front yards, and backyards. Even outside clutter is clutter. If your home is on the market or will be short, curb appeal makes that first impression.

  1. Car

From the glove box to the trunk, do a deep dig of your car. You’ll probably eliminate that annoying rattling noise or solve the mystery smell in the process, too.

  1. Inbox

If your inbox has become a 2-year to-do list, start deleting it for 10 minutes at a time. Consider email bankruptcy if it’s a lost cause (select.all.delete.). If you don’t remember what emails you were saving and why . . . let them go!

  1. Thoughts

What’s swirling around up there? Write down 10 things on your mind, weighing you down, and preventing you from thinking clearly. Moving your worries from the brain to the paper will help you figure out the next step.

  1. Office

Are there things on your desk, in drawers, or hiding in a filing cabinet that you can easily let go of? Let go of the things in your office that don’t contribute to your purposeful, effective work style.

Now that you’ve let procrastination know that motivation and transformation have taken over, consider other decluttering challenges and resources to continue the momentum of moving forward to a simpler lifestyle.

Peace & Harmony ~

Happy Organizing! Cheryl

The Transitions in Life

The Transitions in Life

For something new to begin, an old part of ourselves must sometimes end.

Growth often necessitates the transformation of our inner selves, a process that, while natural and vital, can be painful, confusing, or disorienting. These feelings of confusion and disorientation frequently signal an internal shift, a phenomenon common throughout human life as we progress from infancy through various stages of development. Each transition requires us to bid farewell to a former identity, the self we cultivated for that specific period.

These identities can be deeply intertwined with relationships or careers, and when an internal shift occurs, these external aspects of our lives may become unsettled. A closer examination of these surface-level changes often reveals a deeper, internal metamorphosis. For instance, we might spend a significant chapter of our lives constructing a protective shell to heal from past trauma.

However, a time may come when this very shell feels restrictive and confining, prompting a desire to move beyond the sanctuary it once provided. The growing part of ourselves cannot thrive within the boundaries of the old self’s protective structure.

The process of shedding an old self and embracing a new identity can evoke a paradoxical blend of exhilaration and sadness. We can find inspiration in observing animals that molt or shed, making way for new skin, fur, or feathers. Keeping a symbol of transformation, such as a duck feather, can serve as a potent reminder that death and rebirth are inherent to nature’s evolutionary design.

By surrendering to this process, we can release our past selves with love and gratitude, and with an open mind and heart, welcome the new, preparing for the next chapter of our lives.

Here are 5 simple rituals to help facilitate your new chapter of life:

1. Light & Let Go

  • Write down on small slips of paper the habits, regrets, or fears they want to release.
  • Place them in a bowl, safely burn them (or tear/shred them if fire isn’t an option), and say out loud: “I let this go and make space for what’s next.”
  • End by lighting a candle to symbolize illumination and fresh beginnings.

2. Threshold Walk

  • Have yourself stand in a doorway, imagining the side behind you as your past and the side in front as your future.
  • Step through slowly while affirming: “I step fully into my next chapter with courage and openness.”
  • This physical act of crossing creates a sense of transition.

3. Gratitude Release

  • At night, write down three things from the closing chapter that you are grateful for—people, lessons, or experiences.
  • Place the list in a small box or jar as a “memory capsule.”
  • This honors the past while making emotional room for new experiences.

4. Vision Seed Ritual

  • Provide yourself with flower or herb seeds. Before planting, have them speak their intentions into the soil (e.g., “I plant hope, growth, and love for this new chapter.”).
  • As the plant grows, it becomes a living reminder of their new beginnings.

5. Morning Reset Breath

  • Each morning for a week, step outside, close your eyes, and take three deep breaths:
    • Inhale: “I welcome the new.”
    • Hold: “I am present in this moment.”
    • Exhale: “I release what no longer serves me.”
  • This simple daily ritual grounds them in renewal and readiness.

Effective Blessings

We have the ability to inject every space we enter with positive energy, leaving a gentle and lasting impression.

Every physical space we inhabit absorbs the energy of those who pass through it. We cannot control the energy left by others, but we can influence the energetic footprint we leave behind. By blessing each space we enter, we create a subtle energy shift that benefits both ourselves and those who come after us. This act of grace, although its effects may not be immediately visible, offers comfort in knowing that we have contributed positively to the environment for others.

When you bless a room or building, you impart a powerful message of love and light for future occupants. Your blessings have a multitude of positive effects on the environment. They clear old, stagnant energy, allowing fresh, invigorating energy to flow in. This transforms the space, making it harmonious and nourishing, and a source from which positive feelings emanate.

The key to effective blessings lies in your intention. If your intent is to selflessly spread grace using your consciousness, your blessings will always be beneficial. Whether you prefer a solo blessing or seek assistance from spirit guides, visualize each space becoming free of toxins, chaos, and negativity as you speak your blessing. Then, imagine pure, healing white light and loving energy replacing the emptiness. Even a brief, mindful thought of love can bless a space.

This type of blessing is cumulative, gaining strength with each bestowal. Try blessing every home, business, and office you visit for an entire week and observe the positive effects of your goodwill. Your affirmative energy footprint will contribute to brightening your own day as you consider the future impact of your blessings on humanity and the environment.

Here are 10 simple, low-cost, and uplifting rituals you can use to bless a home or office, inviting in positivity, productivity, and a fresh energy flow:

1. Morning Light Welcome ☀️

Open windows and blinds first thing in the morning to let natural light flood in. As you do, say aloud: “This space is filled with light, clarity, and opportunity.”

2. Smudge or Scent Sweep 🌿

Burn sage, palo santo, or use essential oils (like lemon or rosemary) in a diffuser. Move clockwise around the space, pausing at corners where stagnant energy hides.

3. Salt Purification Bowl 🧂

Place a small bowl of sea salt in each main room overnight to absorb negative energy. Discard the salt outside the next morning and say: “I release what does not serve this space.”

4. Water & Citrus Mop Ritual 🍋

When cleaning floors, add a few drops of lemon essential oil or slices of lemon/orange to your mop water. Visualize wiping away old, stale energy and making room for fresh ideas.

5. Affirmation Corner 📜

Designate one wall, shelf, or desk corner to post inspiring quotes or affirmations that reflect the energy you want in the space (e.g., “I am focused, creative, and inspired here.”).

6. Crystal Charge Station 💎

Place crystals like citrine (abundance & focus) or clear quartz (clarity) in the workspace. Hold each crystal and set an intention for it to “work” for your home or office.

7. Sound Clearing 🔔

Use a bell, wind chimes, or gentle hand claps in each corner of the room to break up stagnant energy. Repeat weekly or after stressful days.

8. Fresh Flowers or Green Plants 🌱

Introduce a plant or vase of fresh flowers to boost oxygen, focus, and calm. As you place them, say: “Life flourishes here.”

9. Gratitude Moment at Entry 🚪

Each time you enter, pause for 3 seconds, take a deep breath, and silently name one thing you’re grateful for. This builds an energy “reset” at the doorway.

10. Weekly Reset Ritual 🕯️

Once a week, light a candle, sit quietly for 2 minutes, and envision the space filled with golden light. See your week ahead flowing with focus, productivity, and joy.

Many Blessings, Coach Cher

10 Ways To Stay Motivated When Negativity IS All Around You

Negativity can often feel overwhelming, stifling dreams and eroding hope. While it’s easy to let such negativity permeate your daily life, remember that you have the power to choose your response, even if you can’t always control external circumstances. By actively cultivating a positive environment, you can foster greater motivation to pursue your aspirations and objectives.

1. Have an attitude of belief. You will get what you expect.

2. Take control over what you can, and stop worrying about what you can’t. Some things are within your control, while others are not.

3. Read and listen to positive information. If you fill your mind with uplifting and inspiring information, it will keep you motivated.

4. Be with positive people at all times. Negative people and conversations will have you focused on all the wrong things and may take your focus off your goals.

5. Speak positive affirmations. Words have a creative strength. Regardless of what is going on around you, speak out loud what you want to happen.

6. Learn from your mistakes, instead of repeating them. We all make mistakes; the key is to take your ‘messes and turn them into messages’ and keep on moving.

7. Make a plan. There is a popular quote: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” When you take time to plan, you allow yourself to think and visualize through the entire process from beginning to end.

8. Celebrate accomplishments, whether big or small. Always take time out to celebrate.

9. Build a support team. Having the right team in place to help you is crucial to your success.

10. Rehearse your victories. Oftentimes, we forget how far we’ve come and the goals we’ve already accomplished.

DAY BY DAY . . .

Navigating life becomes significantly simpler when we embrace the present day, rather than constantly focusing on the future.

Life unfolds day by day, not all at once. Each sunset allows us to rest, confident that dawn brings a fresh start, new perspectives, and renewed hope. The hours between sleep are ours to decide how we will live, learn, laugh, and grow. Experiencing life this way—one day at a time—makes it sweeter and more manageable.

Consider the future stretching out before you. Do you feel tension or stress about the journey ahead? Perhaps you’ve made a recent lifestyle change, like a new diet or quitting smoking, and the thought of maintaining it for years seems daunting.

Or maybe you’ve started a new job or are newly married, and feel anxiety about your ability to succeed. Shifting your focus from years down the line back to the present day can bring calm and renewed confidence in your abilities. You might also discover an inner faith that the future will take care of itself.

How we engage with our lives today and tomorrow significantly impacts who we become and what we experience in the years to come. By remaining fully present in the day at hand, enjoying its offerings, and maximizing our energy, we’ll find ourselves perfectly ready and capable of handling any future when it arrives.

Here is your 5-Step Stay Present Plan:

Step 1: Anchor with Breath

Why: The breath is your built-in lifeline to the present.

  • Practice: At least 3 times a day, pause for 60 seconds. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 6.
  • As thoughts come, acknowledge them, then gently return to the rhythm of your breath.
  • Mantra: “I am here. I am safe. I am enough.”

Step 2: Name What You See, Hear, and Feel

Why: Naming sensory input grounds you in your current environment.

  • Practice: Pick a moment during your day and say (out loud or silently):
    • “I see… (the light through the trees).”
    • “I hear… (the hum of a fan).”
    • “I feel… (the warmth of my hands).”
  • This invites your senses to sit at the table of now.

Step 3: Create “Now” Rituals

Why: Familiar rituals create sacred space in the present.

  • Practice: Choose one small, intentional daily act: making tea, stretching, lighting a candle, walking barefoot.
  • Do it slowly, fully focused on that act. No distractions. (I make my bed very slowly each morning – I purposely tuck every corner – flatten every wrinkle – it feels so energizing  to start the morning this way.)
  • Let it be your anchor to remind yourself: “This is my life. This moment is mine.”

Step 4: Notice When You Drift—and Gently Return

Why: It’s not about perfection—it’s about return.

  • Practice: When you catch yourself spiraling into regret or future worry, say this aloud or in your head:
    • “That’s the past/future. I return to now.”
  • Place your hand over your heart or belly to feel your presence. This moment is your restart.

Step 5: Practice Gratitude in Real Time

Why: Gratitude shifts the mind from lack or fear to abundance and peace.

  • Practice: Each time something brings you calm, joy, or clarity, say thank you in the moment.
    • “Thank you for this warm cup of coffee.”
    • “Thank you for this quiet breath.”
    • “Thank you for surviving, even when it was hard.”

♥ Bonus Affirmation: ~ “I don’t have to fix the past or predict the future to be whole. I already am. Right here. Right now.”

Holding The Line

Title: Holding the Line: How We Save When Everything’s on the Line

It starts with a sigh at the grocery store, standing over a cart that’s a little lighter than usual. The cashier smiles kindly, but behind that smile is another mother doing her own math—calculating the price of dignity in a world that keeps raising the cost. You clip the coupons, stretch every dollar, and trade brand names for store labels, not because you want to—but because you must. Because your kids need milk. Your parents need their medication. And there’s not a luxury to be found, only survival.

The fridge is no longer just an appliance. It’s a battleground of love and sacrifice. Dinner isn’t just a meal—it’s a prayer you stretch with canned beans, rice, and frozen vegetables. You skip meals so your children won’t notice there’s less. You fill your pantry with wisdom from your grandmother, who taught you how to make soup out of bones and hope. She made it through the Great Depression, and now, with every bite, you remember her hands and her strength.

And now it’s not just your kids you’re holding up—your parents are slipping through the cracks too. The messages come in emails with cold words: “Medicaid eligibility review.” You sit with your mom, now frail and trembling, as you fill out forms that feel more like trials than help. You plead with bureaucracies while worrying whether you’ll have to choose between insulin and electricity.

SNAP benefits are being cut for families like yours. It feels like someone is tightening a belt around your soul. But you don’t crumble. You stretch meals, plant tomatoes in coffee cans, and teach your children to find joy in the little things: the smell of warm bread, the power of sharing a single apple.

You hold your head up at the food bank, because there is no shame in feeding your family. You trade recipes with other mothers and grandmothers in parking lots, exchange budgeting hacks, and swap winter coats at community centers. Because we are all in this together.

You cut out takeout, make your own cleaning supplies, repair instead of replace, and teach your children that being rich isn’t about money—it’s about heart, grit, and sticking together.

To every family fighting for their kids, their elders, and their dignity, know this:

~We will survive this.
We come from people who faced breadlines and dust bowls, who turned their last pennies into the foundation for something better. They didn’t give up, and neither will we.

~This moment will not break us.
We are the descendants of resilience. We are the children of those who made it through the darkness of the 1930s with strength stitched into every thread of their being.

~We will survive—because that’s what we do.
We endure. We fight. We rise.

And when the history books write about this era, they’ll say:
“They came together. They gave what they could. They made it through.”

Just like before.
Just like always.
Together.

We Need Compassion

Authentic empathy understands that the divisions we see between ourselves and others are actually not real.

Compassion hinges on acknowledging the profound link between ourselves and others. Genuine compassion sees the illusion in the barriers we create. While this deep understanding might be initially elusive, consistent practice fosters its development. Each instance of prioritizing others over ourselves moves us closer, and as with any skill, compassion flourishes in challenging situations.

Daily, we exercise minor acts of compassion when loved ones are irritable or when others make errors in traffic. We show forgiveness by striving for understanding, recalling our stressful moments. However, compassion becomes more difficult when we struggle to comprehend another’s actions. These situations prompt introspection, exposing parts of our psyches we may have repressed or denied due to societal stigma. This is where true personal growth begins, requiring us to examine ourselves and own the disowned aspects of ourselves. It is here that we have the potential for inner transformation.

This might appear daunting, yet when faced with circumstances that demand compassion, regardless of the difficulty, we can trust our preparedness. We can draw upon the developed inner light to guide us, connecting us to the hearts of others.

Let’s Support Young Adults . . . Not Oppose Them!

THE SUPPORT OF YOUNG ADULTS

Supporting Anxious Young Adults Facing Their Futures: A Call to Action for Skilled Adults

Growing up in the 1970s, our futures were certainly a concern. However, there was a prevailing belief among skilled and experienced adults, when they weren’t focused on sending us to war, that our lives would surpass those of our parents and grandparents. A key difference between then and now lies in the respect afforded to young adults. Back then, adults voiced concerns like “cut your hair,” “put a bra on,” and “stop smoking those funny cigarettes.” These specific issues no longer seem to be a focus for adults today. One wonders if they should be.

Recent studies show that nearly 70% of young adults experience anxiety when they look ahead to their future, from career paths and financial independence to relationships, health, and identity. This isn’t simply a “phase.” It’s a widespread and pressing emotional burden. As skilled and experienced adults, we are in a powerful position to support, guide, and inspire the next generation—if we choose to show up intentionally and compassionately.

1. Normalize Uncertainty, Don’t Glorify Control

Many young people believe that by their mid-20s, they should have it all figured out. We can help by sharing our own stories—honestly. Talk about the career pivots, unexpected life detours, and personal reinventions that shaped you. Let them see that uncertainty isn’t failure; it’s part of becoming.

“I didn’t land on my career until I was 35.”

“The job I loved at 22 wasn’t the one I loved at 42.”

When we normalize nonlinear journeys, we relieve them from the false pressure to get it perfect right now.

2. Offer Mentorship, Not Management

Many young adults fear judgment when they ask for advice. They’re used to being evaluated on tests, in college applications, and on social media. Instead of prescribing solutions, offer coaching. Be a mentor who asks, “What do you love doing?” or “What kind of life would you like to wake up to?”

Offer frameworks, not fixed answers. Ask questions that foster internal reflection, not external validation.

3. Model Emotional Regulation and Coping Strategies

Anxiety around the future is not always logical—it’s emotional. So, rather than offering only “solutions,” show them how to manage the feeling of anxiety. Share what works for you: mindfulness, journaling, breaking big goals into small actions, or simply knowing when to rest.

When adults model emotional literacy, young people learn that being overwhelmed doesn’t mean they’re broken—it means they’re human.

4. Create Brave (Not Just Safe) Spaces

Safe spaces are important, but brave spaces are transformational. Be someone they can talk to without fear of ridicule. Let them explore their doubts, fears, and dreams—even if those dreams seem wild or uncertain.

Start conversations like:

  • “What’s something you want to do but haven’t said out loud yet?”
  • “If fear weren’t in the way, what would you try?”

5. Provide Tangible Tools, Not Just Talks

Sometimes anxiety is fueled by not knowing how to move forward. Offer real-world tools:

  • Resume-building help
  • Budgeting workshops
  • Skill-building internships or shadowing opportunities
  • Guidance on navigating healthcare, housing, or credit

Equipping them with real skills reduces fear and builds confidence.

6. Challenge the Myth of “Success”

Help dismantle the harmful narrative that success must look a certain way—high-paying job, house by 30, picture-perfect life. Emphasize fulfillment, not just achievement.

Success can be:

  • Doing meaningful work
  • Being mentally and physically well
  • Having healthy relationships
  • Living with integrity

Let’s help young people define success on their terms.

7. Walk With, Not Ahead

At the core of all help is this truth: young adults don’t need saviors. They need companions—adults who will walk with them, not ahead of them, shining a light back with encouragement, wisdom, and hope.

“You’re not behind. You’re on your way.”

In Summary:
As skilled, emotionally aware adults, we can help young adults navigate future-focused anxiety not by fixing their fears, but by faithfully walking with them through it. Listening deeply. Sharing honestly. Encouraging gently. Equipping tangibly.

And above all, reminding them: the future isn’t something to fear—it’s something to co-create.

In moments of creativity, the mind becomes calm, stress disappears, freedom emerges, offering an opportunity for exploration, expression, and emotional recovery.

During my time as a cleaner and organizer, I had the privilege of encountering incredibly creative individuals. One client’s daughter and son-in-law were musicians with the Chicago Symphony, a truly unique experience of cleaning to such beautiful music. Another client had children attending Juilliard in NYC, and I would often be mesmerized watching them practice as I worked. It’s a reminder of our innate creativity – our capacity to envision and bring to life anything we imagine.

When children asked about my creative pursuits, I shared my enjoyment of sewing, vision boards, and repurposing. However, I always emphasized that my greatest creative gift lies in my ability to create clean and efficient, purposeful spaces. Ultimately, we all possess skills that allow us to be creative in our way.

Cleaning is my therapy; my clients said I left behind “Scent Therapy” at their homes.

The Healing Power of Creativity

Creativity serves as a pathway to emotional well-being and inner peace, transcending its role as a mere pastime. Engaging in creative activities like music, writing, or art enables the processing of emotions, alleviates stress, and rekindles a sense of lightheartedness often overshadowed by daily pressures.

Research indicates that creative expression significantly benefits mental health by reducing anxiety, enhancing concentration, and building resilience. Uninhibited creative engagement fosters an environment where thoughts can circulate freely, facilitating natural emotional healing.

Mindful Painting: A Transformative Practice.

Mindful painting stands out as a particularly calming and transformative form of creative expression. Diverging from traditional painting’s emphasis on technique or final product, mindful painting encourages full presence in the artistic process.

The blending and swirling of colors with each brushstroke reflect the fluid nature of our emotions. In this practice, there are no mistakes, only the soothing cadence of movement, the texture of the paint, and the awareness of breath as one yields to the present moment. This sensory engagement calms the mind and cultivates profound inner tranquility. Cultivating Self-Compassion Through Art.

Mindful painting fosters a self-relationship grounded in curiosity and kindness. As the brush moves across the canvas, one develops trust in their intuition, lets go of the need for perfection, and appreciates the beauty found in imperfections. Within this realm of creative flow, the intellect softens, stress dissipates, and a sense of liberation emerges—an open invitation to explore, express, and heal in ways that often surpass the limitations of language.
